POINT GUARD CAITLIN CLARK | 6'0 | IOWA
Clark is built differently, physically and mentally. She'll retire as the all-time WNBA scorer, #1 in PPG, and top 3-point shooter in history. She'll probably break the assists record too, will be between her and Ionescu. She's in great shape, can run all day, very solid all throughout her frame, is a really good athlete, good speed, and has great anticipation skills. She can get past any player for a lay-up to the left side or right. She can go left-hand off of the glass or right-hand off of the glass. She has NBA 3-point range, can pull up from anywhere on the floor like Steph Curry. Could reach the pinnacle for a guard in the WNBA, a la Michael Jordan. Get used to the name, she'll be the best WNBA player of all-time when it's all said and done. She plays with an edge, she always remains poised, she is not afraid of any big moment, and she is not intimidated by anybody. To top it off, she is also an elite floor general that seems to understand every concept on the court. She torments the defense with her ability to do everything possible with her triple threat. She spreads the defense with her shooting range, which opens passing lanes for teammates to cut and get easy opportunities. If they cut, she'll find them. She can attack the rim anytime she feels like it. Because she's such a great 3-point shooter, defenders have to stay up on her. allowing her to blow by opponents as a result. She has good speed and anticipation to get in the lane. If the defenders cut her off, she can see the whole court and make perfect passes. Pick your poison, she's constantly frustrating opponents all game long. Every team that doesn't have a chance of winning the WNBA Finals this year should be tanking for Clark if they know what's good for them.
I was afraid that the Mercury would get the #1 pick because they looked like a mess this year. Griner and Taurasi haven't been able to get it done, maybe it's the pieces around them. Either way, they're both aging and Clark needs some players on her timeline. In this edition, This is the best-case-scenario for Clark. She goes from one state that starts with an I to another state that starts with an I, and she's not too far from Iowa for whatever it's worth to her.
The Indiana Fever are a very young, and very big team. They won the rebound battle in most of their games, and have the reigning Rookie of the Year in Aliyah Boston. They have towers on the roster with Boston and NaLyssa Smith (who stand at 6'5 and 6'4, respectively). All that they need now is for a ball-dominant guard to come in and do their thing. Who better than Clark? The best prospect ever, since Cheryl Miller. With floor-general skills like Sue Bird. Clark is absolutely unstoppable. It's almost as if she spent her entire childhood playing basketball all day, watching NBA games in the evening, and playing 2K at night. The knowledge that she has for the game at that age is 2nd to none.
POWER FORWARD/CENTER ANGEL REESE | 6'3 | LSU
Reese has a big game and a big personality. Reese and Clark will be linked as rivals for the remainder of their careers. While Clark could reach the pinnacle for a guard, Reese could reach the pinnacle for a Power Forward. She's a great competitor. She is a dominant rebounder and presence in the paint. She keeps a bottle of Windex in her hands while she cleans the glass all night. She can also bang inside and get plenty of points in the paint. I think she could be a Bill Russell type player. Bill Russell was only 6'9 playing Center and he averaged 20 rebounds per game for most of his career. I could see Reese doing something similar. Not saying that she'll average 20, but she can average over 10 for sure.
I'm not exactly sure what the Sparks will do here, I'm seeing reports that other scouts are raving about Brink, but Reese is on the same level. The difference is, Reese will sell more tickets, especially with her rival with Caitlyn Clark. Their games will always be interesting for viewers. No need to worry though, they get both Reese and Brink in my mock draft. If Brink goes 3rd to Chicago, even better because then they could get Rickea Jackson.
SMALL FORWARD RICKEA JACKSON | 6'2 | TENNESSEE
Jackson is a versatile player, a very good athlete, and is an awesome scorer. She also plays with a little chip on her shoulder, very aggressive in her approach, and very confident in her game. She's good enough to be someone's leading scorer one day, she has an alpha-mentality.
Jackson is too good to pass up here. At 6'2, she can do everything. She's tall enough to help on the boards, she is a great ball-handler for her height, runs the floor extremely well, can lead the break in transition or sprint to the rim when she's off of the ball. She's strong enough to put the defender on her hip when driving to the lane, has a pro-ready body. Can finish around the rim with both hands off of the glass. Has a ton of experience, is ready to come in and contribute immediately. Scoring comes easy to her. She's tall, fast, strong, and athletic. Don't sleep on this baller.
Great move here by Chicago, they sneak back into the top 3 through a trade with the Mercury. I would never trade a top 8 pick in a draft like this, let alone a top 3 pick. However, they actually got a solid veteran player in return. At the end of the day, it was still a short-sighted trade because the window is closing fast with Taurasi and Griner. This would have been the year to bring in the next franchise player for the future. Essentially, they traded the next 10 years to appease the next 2 years. In 2 years, they'll regret not taking Jackson. They were one of the lowest scoring teams in the league, and Jackson would have been the perfect scorer to plug into the rotation.
POWER FORWARD/CENTER CAMERON BRINK | 6'4 | STANFORD
Brink runs the floor well, has good length, and plays smart basketball. She finishes well around the rim, has good hands to catch the ball, and is active off of the ball. She is also a fiery competitor. Her versatility helps as she can play both the 4 and the 5. The Lynx were near the bottom of the league in both blocks and rebounds last season, Brink will certainly help to boost that production. Brink has averaged 3 blocks during her collegiate career. She is very active in the paint and has a long frame to snatch boards.
The Seattle Storm traded this pick, and it was a stupid trade. It was really just a move to save some money. Although, they'll lose money long-term. However, the Sparks have cashed in because they aren't cheap and they know what's up. The loaded 2024 Draft is what's up. The Sparks just became one of the most exciting teams to watch next season. After the Sparks cash in on Angel Reese, they add another talent to the frontcourt. Reese might have to play Center in this scenario, but I think it could work. Rickea Jackson would be a better fit because she plays SF. Both Brink and Jackson are better scorer than Reese, but Reese is an elite rebounder for her size.
(#10 IN THE VIDEO)
CENTER KAMILLA CARDOSO | 6'7 | SOUTH CAROLINA
Kamilla is a can't-miss prospect. She's a tower on the floor, a true-center in every sense of the word, She runs the floor, is an elite rebounder and blocker, has good hands, and finishes well around the rim. Will be a good role player in the league that will get you 10 points, 10 rebounds, and some blocks.
Dallas Guard Ogunbowale is one of the top scorers in the league. Dallas already has good size and legit starters at Power Forward and Center. They could use a true point guard the most. However, Cardosa is way too good to pass up here for Dallas. You have to take her if she's still available. She's the biggest bully on the court, she controls the paint as she towers over everyone. She alters shots and makes opponents think twice about going in the paint.
POWER FORWARD ALISSA PILI | 6'2 | UTAH
Pili is officially in the 1st round! I actually might not have her high enough. She is a real ball-player, has an excellent feel for the game. She is an excellent 3-point shooter and a really good scorer. She scored 37 points against the best team in the country, in South Carolina (as you can see in the highlights above). She can also dribble the ball and move well with and without the ball. Her skill is very impressive.
Washington's biggest need is certainly not the frontcourt. They actually have some pretty good bigs, but they should just take the best player available. Delle Donne is at power forward, but she'll be 35 years old and won't even play this season. Egbo is a bust and Shakira Austin is just okay, so Pili can come in and play right away.
FORWARD AALIYAH EDWARDS | 6'3 | UCONN
Edwards has good size, is solidly built, and is a good athlete. She is a good rebounder, good outlet passer, runs the floor, has a good motor, and is a smart player that is usually in good position. She can also knock down the open 15-20 foot jumper.
Edwards brings it every night, has versatility, can play the 4 or 5. The Lynx need help with everything. Napheesa Collier leads the teams in points, rebounds, blocks, and steals. They could use a point guard, so Georgia Amoore is also a candidate here if she's still available, but she's not in this scenario.
CENTER ELIZABETH KITLEY | 6'6 | VIRGINIA TECH
Kitley is a great rebounder, moves very well for her height at 6'6, has good hands, finishes well around the rim, and her length causes problems for opponents on both sides of the ball. Size matters in this league, and the true Center can guard the tallest centers in the league, she's a huge presence in the paint.
Unfortunately, Kitley tore her ACL in the NCAAW tournament. She'll be out for a year, but she's still a talent worth stashing away for a year. This is Chicago's 2nd pick, so they can afford to do it.
POINT GUARD NIKA MUHL | 5'11 | UCONN
Nika simply does everything right. She doesn't hold onto the ball, she lets it go when something is open. She pushes the ball well in transition. She has great speed, excellent IQ. She will be a starter for somebody one day, no matter where she goes.
Dallas desperately needs a point guard.
GUARD KIKI JEFFERSON | 6'1 | LOUISVILLE
There's a lot to like about Kiki's game. She has good size, moves well, good handles, and a smooth-looking J. It's rare to see female players over 6 feet that can play like a guard, but that's Kiki's game.
It's difficult to pinpoint exactly which direction the Sun are headed. They should probably just take the best talent available.
JACY SHELDON | 5'10 | OHIO STATE
Sheldon is a speedy scoring guard. She is in attack mode, an aggressive scorer of the ball. Not much of a floor general, but she does have solid handles. She knows how to elude the defenders in order to get off a clean shot. I would play her as a 2 for sure. She has a knack for scoring and that will be her thing. She's also one of the fastest players, so that helps her out a lot. Sheldon has a lot of experience, she's a 5th year senior. She's older and more mature, and ready to come in and contribute. She is a very active defender on the perimeter and averaging over 2 steals per game in college.
The Liberty are contending for titles right now, so they don't have time to play around. They need someone with experience that can come in and contribute to winning basketball. They need more depth, the Aces are a little too deep for them.
(#2 IN THE VIDEO)
GUARD DYAISHA FAIR | 5'5 | SYRACUSE
Excellent ball-player, great feel for the game. Good speed and quickness, tons of experience. A leader on and off of the court.
Atlanta is in desperate need of a playmaker on offense. I don't think Hofschild would be available to them in the 2nd round.
