Of course, they hit the homerun with Caitlyn Clark, but that was an easy, no-brainer pick. What's disappointing is that they couldn't capitalize on their 2nd round pick. They could have traded up a few spots to acquire Nika Muhl, another great guard and passer. It never hurts to have players with great court vision and passing. They also could have had center Elizabeth Kitley, although injured, and just stashed her away for a year while she recovers. I had Kitley rated as a top 5 players in this draft class when healthy.

I couldn't wait to give a big fat F. Reason being, they traded the #4 overall pick, and didn't get much in return. So, they passed on players like Rickea Jackson and Angel Reese, essentially. I hate that move or lack thereof.
However, they saved themselves by drafting one of my favorite prospects in the draft. You can see what I wrote about her in my 2024 WNBA Mock Draft. I said that she would be a starter for somebody someday. She is an excellent, unselfish point guard that doesn't play for points. She plays to keep the integrity of the game, always willing to let the ball go for a better opportunity for someone else. So, I have a love/hate for what Seattle did. I think they'll regret not taking either Rickea Jackson or Angel Reese on top of adding Nika Muhl. That would have landed them an A+.

The Aces just seem to do everything right. I'm not sure who is calling the shots there on personnel. Or even how they are stacking all of this talent, they are so far ahead of everyone else. And the rich just get richer in this case. Most notably, the Kitley addition at the end of the 2nd round. She was the 3rd player they drafted in the 2nd round, but she'll be the best of the bunch. Before her injury, I had her as a top 5 prospect in this draft class. All of the other teams are stupid for only focusing on players that can compete right now in training camp. It's very short-sighted and they'll all regret it in a few year. All except the Aces, who just seem to be smarter than every other team in the league. The only reason they didn't get an A+ is because they should have kept their first round pick and used it to trade up for Reese at #7, instead of the Chicago Sky. I'm being very critical with that. Worst case scenario, they could have just stayed at #12 and taken Nika Muhl. That would have been the icing on the cake. However, they did extremely well in adding a top 5 talent from this class. That move will start to pay off by next year.

I love the Angel Reese pick; I still can't believe she made it that far. I thought she was the #3 prospect, and some teams had no business passing on her.
At first, I was a little critical of the Kamilla pick at #3. I thought her and Reese were too similar in game, and that Kamilla was limited offensively. After watching Kamilla in her first few games back, I've had a change of heart. I see how she can impact the game. You aren't going to find many players with her length and mobility. They've secured their Center and Power Forward position for the next 15 years. They'll win most rebound battles, and they'll alternate shots around the rim in a huge way. They had a solid off-season. I may have went a different route, but I give them credit for 2 things: First, they recognized the talent in this draft and went out of their way to acquire the #3 and #7 draft pick. Second, they picked up 2 really good players that will impact the defensive side of the ball more than any other rookies. The Bullies of the Shy.

What the hell was Dallas doing and who is in charge there? Sheldon at #5? Really? She'll keep the bench nice and warm for Arike. They already had a good roster, all they had to do was draft the best available players. The first thing that they did wrong was not take Angel Reese at #5. She slipped there and was a steal. I had Reese as the #3 prospect in this draft class. Then, they could have taken Point Guard Nika Muhl at #9. They desperately needed a point guard. Arike has the shooting guard spot locked up for the next 15 years. Why not get the top point guard prospect available that is ready to go right now. Carla Leite is a really nice talent, but her game is very similar to Arike anyway, so I don't see that working. Arike needs an unselfish player like Muhl beside her in the backcourt.

Phoenix basically had the worst record in the league last season and just decided to punt away the #3. Just to appease the ego of Taurasi, who obviously has a problem with having young, talented players on her team. I guess she can't deal with a rookie unless it's Paige Bueckers. Now, they did trade that 1st round pick for a very good player in Kahleah Copper. Still, Copper is 29 and I give her 5 years at the level she's at now. Rickea Jackson was available and so was Angel Reese. They could have at least added some size with Reese at PF. To top it off, they also lost their 2nd round pick to Chicago. That pick could have been used to take Muhl or Kitley. Best case scenario, Rickea Jackson at #3. Use that 2nd round pick and something else to trade up to that #7 spot for Angel Reese. Then use that first pick in the third round and another piece to move up a few spots into the 2nd round to secure Kitley. Either way, I'm coming out of this draft with at least Kitley, even if it meant taking her in the 2nd round. Griner is 34 years old and Taurasi is 41, it's absolutely time to start thinking about the future before it's too late.

The Sparks nailed it. The only thing they could have done better was to keep that 2nd round pick to take Kitley. I know, Kitley and Brink are similar, but they're not the same. Kitley is a legit 6'6 post Center while Brink is a 6'4 Power Forward with shooting range. If I was making the selections, I would have taken Rickea Jackson at #2, she was my second overall prospect in this class. Then I would have taken Reese at #4. However, I had Reese and Brink ranked as the #4 and #3 prospects available, right beside each other.
Our power rankings are not based on today, like some kind of participation trophy. All of these rankings are based on who I think will be the most dangerous in the playoffs. So having a great week will not move you up the rankings, although we are taking everything into consideration. Mostly, can you evolve into a championship contender.
I couldn't care less that the Aces are struggling right now. They have plenty of time to figure it out and we know they're going to raise their level in the playoffs. You can't convince me that there's a more dangerous team in the playoffs. The defending champions aren't slowing down anytime soon. In playoff basketball, nobody brings the intensity like they do. Plus, they have the experience and championship pedigree over everyone else. Kelsey Plum (#1 pick in 2017), A'ja Wilson (#1 pick in 2018), and Jackie Young (#1 pick in 2019) are all in their prime right now.
Alyssa Thomas, to me, looks like the biggest bully in the league. She's not the tallest, but shoulder to shoulder, she is a presence on the court. She impacts the game in so many ways, and her playmaking ability is very impressive at her size. She's a very versatile player and the leader of the team. The Sun currently have the best record in the league and they could challenge the Liberty to come out of the east.
Stewart and Ionescu are the amongst the top players in the league at their respective positions, and maybe the top combo in the league. They lost to the Aces last year in the playoffs, and they didn't really do enough this off-season to move the needle. The Aces would knock them out again, and now they'd be pressed to get past Connecticut.
They Lynx are undoubtedly up there with the other top teams.
The Mercury can finally be taken seriously now that Griner is back on the court. They have a nice trio of Griner, Taurasi, and Copper. But they need all 3 in order to be effective.
Although the Storm missed out on adding a player like Angel Reese in the draft, they did pick up some good players this off-season in free agency.
