I have to be honest with you, this draft doesn't look loaded. There's a lot of good players to offer, but there's not a consensus great player that stands out amongst everyone else. Nobody looks like they can come in and completely change the fortune of a franchise. Not yet, anyway. We'll see how the season progresses or if anyone makes any huge leaps this year.
TOP TALENT: B-
DEPTH OF PLAYERS: B+
GUARD/FORWARD STEPHON CASTLE | 6'6 200 LBS | UCONN FRESHMAN
High School Senior Statistics: 22 PPG, 7 Rebounds, 6 Assists
Gifted athlete with good size, an NBA-ready body. Strong, explosive, takes good care of the ball, good passer, can finish well around the rim. Has great shooting touch and range on his shot. Able to knock down the 3. Has a very high ceiling. Has tons of potential, could be worthy of that #1 pick if he could tap into all of that talent before the draft.
POINT GUARD ROB DILLINGHAM | 6'3 175 LBS | KENTUCKY | FRESHMAN
FORWARD/CENTER ALEXANDRE SARR | 7'1 220 LBS | FRANCE
Sarr has a lot of potential both defensively and as a scorer. He has good length and is a good athlete.
POINT GUARD NIKOLA TOPIC | 6'6 200 LBS | SERBIA | DRAFT AGE 18
intriguing prospect, very polished at just 18 years old. Can run the point and has excellent range and great shooting touch. In a draft with no consensus #1 player, he could have the potential to go #1.
GUARD REED SHEPPARD | 6'3 190 LBS | KENTUCKY | FRESHMAN
GUARD ISAIAH COLLIER | 6'3 195 LBS | USC FRESHMAN
Senior Season Statistics: 20.2 PPG, 6.8 assists, 5.1 rebounds, 2.3
Collier was way ahead of the competition in high school, it was too easy. He sees the floor like someone older and more experienced, he's way ahead of his time. Has a high basketball IQ and great understanding of the game. Is the best pure point guard in this draft. He truly tries to play the position and take whatever the defense gives him. He's proving that at USC so far, can control the tempo of the game. Can score or distribute. He's also very strong, could be one of the strongest points guards in the league. Has really good size, skills, and awareness for the position.
FORWARD MATAS BUZELIS | 6'10 190 LBS | G-LEAGUE IGNITE
Buzelis has a lot of skill, but he doesn't have a takeover mentality. He'll play within the limit of the offensive scheme, which will make him a good role player in the league. Someone that compliments other players well.
RONALD HOLLAND | 6'7 200 LBS | G-LEAGUE IGNITE | FRESHMAN
Ironically, Ron Holland and Justin Edwards, both remind me of each other. He obviously won't have the same level of coaching as Ewards will, but perhaps he could have a bigger role on his G-League team.
GUARD JA'KOB WALTER | 6'5 180 LBS | BAYLOR | FRESHMAN
FORWARD ZACCHARIE RISACHER | 6'9 200 LBS | FRANCE
POWER FORWARD/CENTER KYLE FILIPOWSKI | DUKE | SOPHOMORE
CENTER ZACH EDEY | 7'4 300 LBS | PURDUE
CENTER DONOVAN CLINGAN | 7'2 265 LBS | UCONN | SOPHOMORE
FORWARD CODY WILLIAMS | 6'8 185 LBS | COLORADO | FRESHMAN
FORWARD DALTON KNECHT | 6'6 210 LBS | TENNESSEE
FORWARD POINT GUARD TYLER KOLEK | 6'3 195 LBS | MARQUETTE
CENTER KEL'EL WARE | 7'0 220 LBS | INDIANA
BRONNY JAMES JR | 6'2 190 LBS | USC
Seems unlikely, right? No, not at all. LeBron isn't getting any younger. If he genuinely wants to play with his son, Bronny will have to enter the draft as early as possible. I have him going to the Lakers in the 2nd round at pick #38. This is exactly what LeBron wants, and he can stay with the Lakers on top of it. It works out for everyone, the only question I don't know is if Bronny Jr wants to play with his father. I would assume that he does.
Don't sleep on Bronny's game though. At 6'2, he's not your traditional point guard, he plays off of the ball; similarly to Seth Curry. He's a great catch-and-shoot player that is by far a better shooter than his father was at this point in his career. Bronny is much more athletic than Seth Curry though, and as a result, should also be a much better defender. Think more of a Gary Payton Jr on defense with his compact frame and athletic ability.
